Ottawa’s Compliments & Complaints Department is a featured column supported by the Apt613 Fellowship Program. The aim is to spotlight locals from different hoods of the capital, letting them celebrate this city and share their constructive criticisms.
About: Josephine is the kitchen manager of the brand-new café Red Door Provisions in New Edinburgh.
Hood: Beechwood Village. Photo taken on the rooftop of Rockcliffe Arms, Springfield Rd.
Complaint: There aren’t enough green spaces and parks in Ottawa. There should be more trees on sidewalks and potted flowers. For example, at Lansdowne Park there is close to zero green space. There should be potted flowers hanging and more trees.
Compliment: The local business scene. I love Market Organics because of their selection of organic products. St. Albert Cheese and Red Door Provisions, where I work, because they do everything they can to collaborate with other local businesses and they have great coffee.
Recommendation: Try out the little restaurants like Ola Cocina. Go swimming in the Rockcliffe Pond during your free mornings. Check out Stanley Park where dogs are welcome and the bike paths around it. And don’t forget the Beechwood Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.
