Regeneration Potluck

September 15 @ 11:00 am2:00 pm

Free

The Regeneration Potluck is a combination of an end of summer celebration and a chance to learn about some hopeful things that are starting to happening in our local and national food system.
Just Food, Regeneration Canada, Canadian Organic Growers, the Society for Organic Urban Land Care and Ecology Ottawa are all contributing introductory information on ecosystem health, especially on some of the good news about how quickly soils and ecosystems can bounce back when management practices change.
The short presentation and conversations over lunch will also touch on:
• How changing agricultural land management practices can capture and sequester all of the historically released excess atmospheric carbon in a matter of decades and why this will likely be one of the most important tools we have for averting runaway climate breakdown.
• How even lands that remain in field crop production or managed grazing can sequester carbon, support pollinators and improve drought and flood resilience.
• How improved soil health in agricultural areas can help decrease flooding in urban areas
• How urban organic waste (compost) can be part of soil health restoration process.
• How these things relate to our daily lives and how we can act on them in small and large ways
