Gifts that Do Good Holiday Market

December 12, 2018 @ 6:00 pm9:00 pm

Following the success of last year’s Gifts that do Good Market, Impact Hub Ottawa will be hosting its second Holiday Market at 123 Slater Street on December 12th.

This is a holiday market with a twist – so alongside a roster oflocal, sustainable, and ethical businesses we will be mixing in otheropportunities to give – like donating to charities and other good causes.

With Gifts that do Good we hope to make Ottawans’ holiday shopping not only fun, but meaningful. We’re sending out a positive holiday message to remind ourselves of our individual impact and of the people and issues that are in need of our support.

The bonus? Admission to the market is FREE!

Our amazing vendors this year include:

Evidence for Democracy is the leading fact-driven, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization promoting the transparent use of evidence in government decision-making in Canada. Stop by our booth for some science swag – we’ll have nerdy buttons, magnets, t-shirts, and baby onesies!

Water Rangers – We’re all about teaching people about the health of their local waterbodies. We’ll be selling small items, like thermometers, test strips, and native shoreline seed packs, but we’ll also have bigger items like water testing kits!

NU Grocery is Ottawa’s first zero waste grocery store. We’ll be selling accessories for the zero waste lifestyle that make great Christmas gifts.

Soap 2 Hope – Our brand and purpose is centred around selling locally handmade soap with 100% of the proceeds funding sustainable water and sanitation development projects in the Mukuni Village in Southern Zambia. Ever since it’s creation in a Carleton university seminar, Soap2Hope has been inspired to help those without the means to afford even the most fundamental ingredient to poverty reduction.  As our name states, soap (and access to clean water) brings hope of a better future.

Backcountry Wok sells dehydrated Asian meals in eco-friendly, compostable packaging. Just add hot water to our heat resistant and compostable packaging, wait 20 minutes and ready to enjoy! Great for campers or busy people on the go.

Main Street Knits sells high end knitwear made from natural fibres. My materials are made by a small company in Uruguay which functions as a co-o to support local farmers and women.

Whitespace Goods is an Ottawa based company that sells apparel, apothecary, and abode. This holiday seasons we have some great and simple stocking stuffers as well as our newest Mystery Holiday Skin Pack to keep your skin moisturized and healthy all winter long!

Sugar Science Bakery – Gluten-free, vegan cookies, that will blow your mind 😉

Thirteen a Social Enterpise – Thirteen is a Social Enterprise supporting our youth entrepreneurial training program of Parkdale Food Centre. The youth team learn about building a business, engaging with the community, develop products and recipes and gain experience working for Thirteen as sales reps and brand ambassadors.

ApricitySox offers unique socks that are made from Mongolian Yak and Camel Wool. Our socks are extremely warm, stylish and versatile. Over the knee socks are one of our best sellers. They can be worn as boot liners for rubber boots, with short booties, as an equestrian sock for fall and winter horseback riding. These socks will be your new best friend during winter outdoor activities.

Beads of Awareness – Our fairly traded paper beads and fabric crafts support vulnerable women in Uganda. Proceeds from sales are invested in micro-finance and other development projects.

National Observer is Canada’s leading source of environment, energy and politics investigations and news. Meet members of our Ottawa team, unlock exclusive access to stories you won’t find elsewhere, and buy one of our stylish sturdy tote bags to carry your Christmas gifts.

Genuine Girard Foods – We sell a wide variety of foods for those on restricted diets, but the food is so good many of our customers do not have any dietary restrictions. We will only have a few of our products: Low-glycemic, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan energy chocolate, Turmericaffe: ready-to-brew coffee-style beverage made from chicory, turmeric and cinnamon. Human Bird Seed: a gluten-free, vegan topping for things like salads, yogurt or cereal.

Hemp Hippie & GSpaull Graphics – Both of us will be supporting Friends of the Earth, who provide advocacy programs that focus on environmental issues, highlighting their social, political and human rights contexts. We will specifically be donating to the Bee Cause. The Bee Cause aims to spread education and awareness about bee species and flora that supports them. We hope as artist and nature lovers that we can help other people fall in love with the natural beauty surrounding them and promote respecting and caring for the planet we live on and the creatures that in-habit it.

African Bronze Honey Company – We are a certified B Corp that works with beekeeping projects in Africa to market and value add their sustainably harvested, organic, forest honey. Our goal is to support beekeepers who protect pristine forest environments and while helping to create economic opportunities for the beekeepers and their families.

Arbonne – Being earth friendly has everything to do with who we are and how we choose to grow my business. Twenty percent of the value of all sales during this show will be donated to the Rotary Foundation.
