No teenage meltdown is ever complete without a perfectly curated playlist.
In support of Ottawa’s newest music festival, SIDE BY SIDE Weekend!, Dear Freaks is hosting an evening of storytelling and journal reading inspired by your biggest band crushes, music obsessions, and hormone-fueled playlists. Entry is $5/PWYC, and all of the donations will go directly to Side-by-Side programming.
Currently, we are looking for 7-8 readers/storytellers to share their best (and worst) musical memories. As long as your story/journal/diary/writing-in-whatever-medium is true (i.e. not fiction) and music-related, no entry is off limits! E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with a brief description of the story/journal entry you plan to share to sign up.
If you have a story/journal entry about:
– An album/artist/song that soundtracked your experience of unrequited love
– A song you wrote for your high school garage rock band
– Your first concert experience
– An overwhelming crush on a musician
– The first band that really “understood” you
– Your MuchMusic days
– or any other embarrassing tale involving music…
We want to hear from you!
Accessibility note: the main floor of Black Squirrel Books is accessible via a stop-gap at the front entrance, though there is no push-button for the door. The bathrooms are unfortunately not accessible, as they are located in the basement. Black Squirrel Books is licensed, but a variety of non-alcoholic options are available.
** This event is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory.**
