Dance lovers—have you been missing live performances? Then don’t miss the chance to see two new modern dance pieces this week at La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins from Nov. 11 to 13, 2021. One ticket gets you into both performances, which each run about an hour with an intermission in between.
The double bill kicks off with Singeries, a two-hander created and performed by Priscilla Guy and Catherine Lavoie-Marcus. It’s an “incessant dialogue” between two women trying to stay true to themselves while also observing themselves on a series of video screens and trying to keep up with their own antics, lest they disappear entirely.
The second piece on the bill, Les employés, receives its world premiere at La Nouvelle Scène. This sci-fi theatrical dance piece, which explores what happens when mysterious objects are brought aboard a powerful space exploration corporation’s ship and the fragile relationships among its human and fellow workers begin to crack and sink into violence, was adapted for the stage from a novel by Danish author Olga Ravn and is directed and designed by Cédric Delorme-Bouchard.
La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins is located at 333 King Edward Ave. Tickets for Singeries/Les employés start at $15 and are available online. Visit nouvellescene.com for more information.
