Designers go head-to-head in a creative showdown

By Hannah Manning on July 25, 2016

Have you ever wondered what goes on in Ottawa’s vibrant creative and design community? If so, the upcoming Adobe Creative Jam hosted by Creative Mornings Ottawa is a must-attend event.

Since 2012, Creative Mornings has been hosting monthly gatherings in Ottawa. By bringing people together, they hope to inspire, promote collaboration, and create a sense of optimism. If you’re interested in getting in on that, you can join them at Lowertown Brewery for their next event on July 28th at 7pm.

A Creative Jam is a design experience that demonstrates and celebrates creativity. The evening rolls out in three parts. First, local leaders in the creative and design field will be on site to review portfolios: sign up online to reserve your spot. Second, the Adobe Creative Cloud team will highlight the work of three local creative leaders: Gordon McMillan (CEO and Chief Creative Officer of McMillan), Bev Hyatt (Graphic Designer, Cinnamon Toast New Media Inc.) and Dominic Coballe (Designer/co-founder, N-Product).

The third part of the evening is the Creative Jam tournament – a 3 hour design challenge showdown. Competitors will present their creations and the audience will vote on the People’s Choice winner, with a grand prize winner selected by the judges.

Creative Jam is just one of many creative design-centric events that takes place in Ottawa throughout the year. Other events include Ottawa Architecture Week, Nuit Blanche Ottawa Gatineau (dusk-until-dawn art in the city), Pecha Kucha (informal, fun gatherings with presentations made up of 20 slides, with each slide lasting 20 seconds), the Capital Urbanism Lab (hosted by the National Capital Commission, this space is used to encourage discussion and collaboration on topics associated with planning a capital city), and the regular Creative Mornings Ottawa lecture series.

For anyone interested in design, creativity (or beer!), this looks to be an exciting evening!

Creative Jam takes place July 28th from 7-10pm at Lowertown Brewery (73 York Street). You can RSVP online.
