For the fourth consecutive year, Apartment613 has won GOLD for “Best Community News Website” at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards! We’re out here reflecting Ottawa’s true local identities and trying to recognize the folks who make this city awesome, so that’s an award for all y’all! Apartment613 was started in 2008 by a group of friends who found it remarkable that, although Ottawa has an active arts and culture scene, you really needed to know what you’re looking for or know the right people to get involved. They decided to do something about it! They threw a launch party on 6/13 at Raw Sugar Café (R.I.P.)—the first of many 613 Day parties and birthday celebrations since then. In this pandemic year+, we haven’t been able to meet in person, but we’ve managed to keep the spirit of Apt613 alive and kicking through lockdowns, stay-at-home-orders, and so, so many Zoom calls and Google Hangouts. Our goal is to keep the flames of our community burning until we can all get out and physically take part in all our city has to offer once again.
We want to continue to grow apt613.ca as a platform for participation and community-building. Everyone is welcome, so come on over! If you’d like to help out, please visit our contact page to find out how you can get involved.
