Contact Ontarois: The province’s biggest showcase of francophone music is in Ottawa this week—until 01.18.19

By Apartment613 on January 14, 2019

The largest francophone arts showcase in Ontario is presenting fifty-some of French Canada’s most impressive artists in Ottawa this week. A number of performances, workshops and networking events are scheduled downtown, with nightly concert showcases attracting industry delegates and local audiences to the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orléans.

It’ll cost you just 20 bucks to see a showcase of Franco-Ontario and Canada’s best music acts. About seven bands perform nightly for onlooking bookers, agents, other music industry delegates and the general public for three nights at Shenkman Arts Centre. Notable acts include Louis-Philippe Robillard and Mélissa Ouimet (Jan. 16), Mehdi Cayenne and David Myles (Jan. 17), Pierre Guitard and Marie-Clo (Jan. 18).

Only these concerts are open to the public, while a handful of theatre and music shows for youth audiences will take place for students at École secondaire publique De La Salle and more theatre productions will be presented to industry delegates behind closed doors at The Marriott Hotel on Kent Street.

Following the week of shows, bookers visiting from regional theatres and performing arts centres will select the artists they wish to include in their 2019–20 seasons.
