A five-time Grammy award winner, Battle has a wide-ranging repertoire that covers three centuries worth of music, from the Baroque era to modern compositions.
The performance on Saturday, December 21, is scheduled to take place at the Dominion-Chalmers United Church (355 Cooper), and is a fundraiser for both CHEO and initiatives by Music and Beyond to promote youth music.
The concert programme will include works by such composers as Vivaldi, Handel and Rimski-Korsakov, as well as a selection of spirituals and holiday season favourites like We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Also on the bill is Dr. Fraser Rubens, a cardiac surgeon at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute who is also a recognized tenor. This combination of medicine and music is a perfect fit for this fundraiser.
For those who want to make a donation to Music and Beyond, which has been organizing an annual summer music festival since 2010, you can do so on their web site.
