When you think of Ottawa, do you think of fashion? Host of upcoming TV show Capital Style Files, Katrina Turnbull does.
The blogger and producer has been tapped by Bell to host a fashion show that promises to take viewers into the closets of Ottawa’s most fashionable citizens.
I was invited to a special screening of the show at the CTV building in the Byward market and as the dimly lit room filled with Ottawa fashionistas it became further apparent to me that there is a wealth of potential subjects in Ottawa for the TV show. The glittering crowd was filled with elegant bloggers, trendy Snapchat-ers and on-point Instagram stars.
For the first few episodes, subjects for the show have included fashion blogger/public servant Dominique Baker and fashion editor Alexandra Gunn, to name a few.
I asked the poised and charming host, Katrina, a few questions before her admiring audiences took her away.
What would you say is Ottawa’s fashion identity?
The root of Ottawa’s fashion identity is practicality, and that’s not a bad thing. Whether its professional life or personal, that’s a great foundation to build on and add your own flair and add something exciting.
What advice would you give those wanting to break into the Canadian fashion industry?
Well, you need to have a solid online portfolio: whether that’s keeping your LinkedIn up-to-date or keeping professional accounts for all social profiles, you have to have a presence online. Also, make sure to work really hard to make connections and then follow up and network, network and network!
Who will you be covering in the show?
Ottawa celebrities known in the community, there will be a wealth of guests –all of them will be men and women with a strong sense of style!
