Capital Music Awards will sing praises of Ottawa-Gatineau musicians and community

By Greggory Clark on January 14, 2020

The nomination period is open until February 14, 2020.

It’s awards season and this year we’re also going to see the winners of Ottawa-Gatineau’s first ever Capital Music Awards. The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition is launching the initiative to celebrate artists and members of the local community; intending to promote our local music scene to the rest of Canada, Québec and beyond.

A recent Facebook post says the awards will be determined in March 2020. An exact date or venue for the event has yet to be announced. Follow @ottawamic and watch this space for updates.

Members of the public are invited to submit nominations for two of six awards (Impact Award and Entertainer of the Year) while OMIC members can submit nominations in every category:

  • Song of the Year | Chanson de l’année
  • Band of the Year | Groupe de l’année
  • Solo/Duo of the Year | Solo/Duo de l’année
  • Video of the Year | Vidéo de l’année
  • Impact Award | Prix d’impact
  • Entertainer of the Year | Artiste de l’année

The eligibility period for all awards is between August 1, 2018 and September 1, 2019.

A jury will shortlist five nominees to be voted upon by OMIC members in good standing. The jury will “equally weigh artistic merit with popular success” in their decision making.

Only Entertainer of the Year (Artiste de l’année) will go to a public vote.

Nominations can be made online until February 14.
