Blog news: Apartment613 welcomes four new board members

By Morgan Waters on March 22, 2022

Our amazing network of volunteer contributors and hard working editorial team deserve most of the credit for keeping you connected to the cultural happenings in our home city, but there is another group of people who help keep this blog going: Apartment613’s Board of Directors.

And the board just got some new blood.

Philippe Ha, Ashley Burk, Jason Wood and Pearly Pouponneau were voted in at the last board meeting in February and wow—what a crew. Not only do these newest volunteer members have incredible experience, insights and ideas to share, their love for the blog and this city is for real.

So, intros.

Okay, okay so Philippe Ha isn’t exactly new blood. Once upon a time, he was Apt613’s hard-working Community Manager. He’s back, this time with fresh ideas on how to bolster the blog’s role as an inclusive convener of Ottawa’s artists, storytellers, and communities. Philippe shone in his last role so we know he’s going to be even more amazing in this new one.

There are lots of great things about Ashley Burk, but I only get a paragraph for each new member in this space so the essentials are thus: she is a) an avid reader of the blog; b) a lawyer (people, it’s always good to have one of those in your corner) and c) a big believer in Ottawa’s local ecosystems. It’s a magic combination, non?

Jason Wood has never been to space. Besides that, he’s pretty amazing. He’s high up there (no pun intended) at the Canadian Space Agency but feels the time is right to volunteer his notable skills and energy for his community. Lucky us, he wants to do that right here at Apt613. His wealth of experience in everything from strategic planning to partnership building and more is going to help keep Apt613 on its A game.

Finally—the Pearly Pouponneau dynamo. This woman is everywhere and doing everything—she’s on the radio, she’s podcasting, she’s a creative director AND a founder of a non profit. She may also have the ability to expand time because she does all that brilliantly AND has been kind enough to join our board. Apt613 is a community that’s always looking to expand, explore and embrace, and Pearly can help do all those things and more.

One last thing. When Apt613 put out the word that we were looking for new board members, we were overwhelmed by the response. It was heartwarming to see the amount of people who not only loved the blog, but were willing to donate their time and energy to keep it going, and heading in new and exciting directions. Thank you Ottawa. We’re feeling the love.

Lots more to come from these fine new additions as Ottawa—dare we say it—starts to shake off the isolation of the last couple of years. It’s time to reconnect and Apt613 is excited to be a part of it.
