Aidan Knight buys van, drives it to Wakefield
Aidan Knight and his band needed a van. It’s tough to tour without one and the band needed to somehow get off Vancouver Island. A van was bought. Now, the only problem was how to pay for it. Thus the Telecommunicate EP – an album born our of necessity. The whole process started only weeks […]
Join us at Jane’s Walk Ottawa 2013
Every year Apartment613 works with Jane’s Walk Ottawa – a festival of free neighbourhood walking tours – to give a tour of an area where we love to hang. We pull together some of the business owners we know (and some we want to know better) and ask them the sorts of questions we’d ask if we were interviewing them […]
Mike Dubue wants to compose you a ringtone (and score a silent film)
Mike Dubue, former front-man of the Hilotrons, is trying his hand at another silent film. You might remember these events happening at the Mayfair a while back. This time Mike and a group of local musicians have rented out the ByTowne Cinema to present The Adventures of Prince Achmed with an original score. They are […]
Coffee Geeks meet at the Canadian Brewers Cup & Cup Tasters
I’m a bit of a coffee geek. While on vacation I plan visits to roasters. I consider a half pound bag of coffee to be a valid souvenir and we ditched the electric coffee machine in favour of pour-over and AeroPress brewers at our house long ago. I am, however, NOTHING compared to the coffee […]
Your new favourite band: Montreal’s SUUNS
I won’t lie. Being a blogger sometimes has its perks…like getting an early copy of an album. And I’ve had SUUNS’ latest record Images du futur on repeat at my house for the last two months. These four guys, out of Montreal, have managed to create something fresh – with songs running the gamut from rocking wa-wa filled Mirror Mirror to dancey tunes that remind us a bit of Radiohead with the bleeps and bloops replaced by scowling guitars on Power of Ten. Apt613 caught up with singer Ben Shemie in between tour stops.

Foodie Friday: searching for Ottawa’s finest Caesar
Sometimes, here at Apartment613, we’ve got to take on tough assignments. For the sake of our discerning readers, we’ve previously had to taste all the pizza, drink all the coffee and eat all the cupcakes. It’s not war reporting, but still, think of the calories. Anyways, this past weekend, the Hintonburg Public House invited us to judge […]
Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Dr. John, David Byrne and St. Vincent to headline mainstage at Ottawa Jazz Festival
The Jazz Festival announced their line-up for the main stage today, with a few big names topping the list. I’m particularly excited about getting a chance to see David Byrne and St. Vincent live. I love their album and it should be a great show. It’s also your chance to see a few icons of […]
He’s Jim Watson, mayor of Ottawa. Ask him anything

Apartment613 has confirmed that the Imperial restaurant on Bank street is now closed. According to owner Chris Edwards “they were unable to reach an agreement” with their landlord, forcing him to close the business. Our understanding is that the building is owned by the same folks as Barrymore’s. We’ve contacted them for a comment and […]
