Did you know Ottawa has nearly one hundred professional, community and student choirs? One of the brightest among them Capital Chamber Choir, who we featured on Apartment613’s YouTube channel in S1:E5 of the Ottawa Minute series. You can watch in the player below.
Heads up now that CCC is holding auditions for the 2019–2020 season. A notice says they’re looking (listening?) for singers in all sections of the ensemble; ainsi que des chanteuses et chanteurs francophones.
Auditions will take place August 25–27 in the choir room at St. Joseph’s Parish, 151 Laurier Avenue East. Singers will be sent three short excerpts to perform a capella. There will also be a short sight reading and test and scales. The audition last about ten minutes.
The choir scene in Ottawa is so diverse that there is a choir here for every singer—no matter their skill level or musical background. So no worries if CCC’s audition sounds a bit intense for your comfort. They’ve repped Ottawa at national competitions and most of the members have (or are pursuing) music degrees at university—it’s an opportunity for advanced singers.
To dip your toes into a relatively low-pressure environment, we’d suggest you look into the non-auditioned Ottawa Brahms Choir; and check this list of local choirs assembled by the folks at Leading Note music store on Elgin Street.
