Two evenings of intrigue at the Mystery Cafe

By Alejandro Bustos on October 6, 2014

Some of our regions best mystery writers will gather this Wednesday and next week (October 15), for what promises to be two wonderful nights full of literary suspense and captivating detective yarns.

Occurring at the Grounded Kitchen & Coffeehouse (100 Gloucester St.), the Mystery Cafe will showcase some of the top mystery authors from the National Capital Region.

“There will be musical entertainment and readings,” says event organiser and Ottawa-based writer Mike Martin, who is the creator behind the highly enjoyable Sgt. Winston Windflower series.  “I will also interview the authors and there will be a Q&A.”

Co-sponsored by Apartment613, the Crime Writers of Canada  and the Ottawa International Writers Festival, the Mystery Cafe offers two evenings of literary and musical fun, with each night presenting a different trio of local authors.

The first night on Wednesday, October 8 will feature Vicki Delany, Michael J. McCann and Linda Wiken (aka Erika Chase), who is the former owner of the specialty book store Prime Crime Books on Bank St. that closed in 2010.

The participating writers next week, meanwhile, are the award winning Barbara Fradkin, as well as the prolific writers Mary Jane Maffini and Brenda Chapman.

While both events are free it is recommended that you come early.  “We will not be selling tickets,” says Martin.  “It will be first come first served.”

The Mystery Cafe takes place on October 8 and October 15 at the Grounded Kitchen & Coffeehouse (100 Gloucester St.).  Each night runs from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
