If you had a recent release of a hip-hop album with the lead single called “Champagne,” how would you celebrate? My guess is that it would be something along the lines of a party—and that’s exactly what Alex Silas & The Subterraneans are setting out to do.

With Tunnels: Season One officially released this summer, Silas has been focusing his efforts on organizing a banging release party for the record. This will occur on Saturday August 6, in the basement at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts.

In the month since its release, Silas says that the reception for Tunnels has been fantastic and validating.

“These songs seem to really be resonating with people which is an unbelievable feeling. [We have] been getting some really personal, heartfelt responses, and in a big way that’s why we do this,” he reflects. “I think we progress and really define what the Subterraneans’ sound is, it becomes easier and more accessible to find and connect with our audience.”

By entering through that purple-light doorway into the venue, you will encounter an eclectic group of performers that will surely have you on your feet for the night. Some of these performers include Ghettosocks, DRAE, GEISTERHAUS, E.On (of the Adding Machine) and A. Charter. A DJ by the name of J2xF will be providing more music throughout the night.

There will be a variety of live art by Robbie Larivière that you can bid on at the end of the night. Not only will you have the opportunity to take home pieces of art, but you’ll have an amazing story of how you got it. Win-win, right?

With all that this event has to offer, it could surely be perceived as an artistic gold mine. So gather that hip-hop enthusiasm, and come celebrate this bit of local Ottawa talent.

Alex Silas and The Subterraneans release party for Tunnels: Season One will be Saturday August 6 at Brigid’s Well (310 St. Patrick). Doors are at 8pm. $10 advance tickets are available here. $15 at the door. For more on the release of Tunnels take a look here.
