A wedding event for the modern bride-to-be at Victoire

By Kelsey Sunstrum on March 2, 2015

As a bride-to-be myself I can attest that wedding planning can be a real downer sometimes. From the overwhelming array of options, to the astronomical price tags, to parental expectations, being the event planner for your big day is stressful. If you’re in the same boat as me, head over to A Modern Wedding Event, taking place on March 5th at Victoire Boutique on Wellington.

Bridal shows are a secret weapon when it comes to preparing for your wedding. Samples of products are standard fare for these events which are an excellent opportunity to find and research vendors in one place, without much work on your part. Shop workers, and often owners, are available and eager to answer any question you have about their inventory or advice for the special day. Even a quick walk-through a bridal show can be a powerful motivator in your planning and incite inspiration.

This event is an opportunity for Victoire to premiere the first line of bridal wear from Montreal-based Birds of North America. The collection, named “Vigilant Sleep,” is heavily influenced by the 60s, showcasing simple and sweet bridal shift dresses. As an added bonus, the offerings are extremely budget-friendly.

Other Ottawa favorites are taking part in the event. Grace Irving, owner of Heart Deco, will be attending to discuss the vintage engagement and wedding bands she carries that will satisfy any bride on the hunt for a unique ring with history.

Ottawa favorite, Auntie  Loo’s Treats, the all vegan bakery,  is another participating vendor. President, Amanda Lunan, will be on-site to discuss your dream wedding cake. And, as if you needed more encouragement to attend this bridal bonanza – there will be cake samples.

The final vendor is Sparrow Floral Design, one half of the charming Flowers and Vintage boutique on Somerset. Known for her whimsical and rustic creations, owner Vanessa Madely will bring along some of her favorite bridal bouquets to whet your floral appetite and will be scheduling consultations for interested attendees.

The best part of this bridal show is that, unlike most other bridal events that rely on a more traditional, cookie cutter aesthetic, Victoire Boutique presents cost-effective alternatives for weddings looking to be more personal and off-the-beaten aisle… er, path.

A Modern Wedding Event is happening on Thursday, March 5th, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Victoire Boutique, 1282 Wellington St. W. Free admission.
