North Bay native, Cody Allen definitely set the room ablaze on Saturday night, as he unleashed his latest effort, IGNITE to a packed house at Irene’s Pub. With the help of his accomplished band members, Jeff Logan (electric guitar), Rob Toth (bass), and producer, Steve Foley (drums), Allen offered up a set of well over […]
Large sheets of plexiglass hung from chains on the ceiling like a synthetic butcher’s shop. Lights reflect behind them, creating for all of us the same kind of blurred visualization of those who should wear glasses but don’t. The suspended sheets have since been removed, but the sweaty self-reflection remains. Otherwise unassuming, Irene’s is a pub that will reflect your assumptions, but on Sunday nights, Irene’s becomes a time capsule.

Welcome to the long weekend!
We are one work week closer to real spring now, friends. Can you feel it? While the blossoms are slower to arrive than last year, we are counting our blessings and watching closely for the next perfect moment to hit a patio! This weekend is one for the books, with the launch of undercurrents—back in person!—and the Ottawa Grassroots Festival bringing new musical voices to downtown. The NAC is hitting it out of the park, as usual, and there is some great eco-conscious ultra-local shopping to do to round out the perfect spring weekend.
What a weekend we have in store! Pack your sunglasses and your umbrella because spring is on its way.
