Next Saturday, November 17, the National Gallery of Canada will play host to the 4th annual Timeraiser night in Ottawa. For those who don’t know the project, Timeraiser is an art auction where, rather than bidding with cash, you bid with volunteer hours. Corporate sponsors chip in to pay fair market value for a work of art, and then Timeraiser puts these pieces of work up for auction. There’s a long list of agencies where bidders can volunteer their time. If you win, you work the hours on that bid and receive your art at the end of your volunteer time. All told, they plan to raise 5000 volunteer hours and invest $15,000 in the careers of emerging artists.
Apartment613 readers have a history of filling out the ranks of Timeraiser attendees and Timeraiser has always come forward with really neat contests for our readers. We once gave away a flight anywhere WestJet flies (that was awesome).
This year is no different. The Timeraiser team has pulled together a great night out for two lucky readers next Saturday. You’ll get tickets to Timeraiser (or a refund for your tickets, if you already bought ’em), a room at Les Suites Hotel and a $100 gift card for Murray Street Restaurant.
To enter: simply email firstname.lastname@example.org with your favourite place to see art in Ottawa. It might be a gallery, a cafe or your friends’ living room – wherever you get your art fix. We’ll announce the winners on Apartment613 Live (our weekly radio show on CHUO 89.1FM) next Wednesday, November 14 from 9-10pm. We’ll also email you if you win, but if you do listen (and phone us on the air), we’d love to chat with you live!
Speaking of CHUO and Apartment613 Live, on next Wednesday’s show we’re going to feature artists who will have work in Timeraiser, as well as some of the agencies who are taking volunteers. It should be good.
