Who’s running for city council?

By Greggory Clark on April 23, 2018

Although Ottawa’s municipal election is about six months away, on October 22, we’re starting to see people announce their candidacy for mayor, councillor, or school board trustee.

Mayor Jim Watson has already announced he will seek a third term in office. Other incumbents running for a new term include Bob Monnette (Orléans), Michael Qaqish (Gloucester-South Nepean) and Jeff Leiper (Kitchissippi). Notably, Mark Taylor (Bay) and Jody Mitic (Innes) will not be running.

To help you keep track, the folks at Ottawa Start have put together a list of everyone known to be running for office in city hall. Send an email or tweet @OttawaStart if someone’s name is missing. Their list will be updated often.

So far, zero candidates are challenging Mayor Jim Watson for his job. While none have confirmed anything, the Ottawa Start bloggers also have a running list of politicians rumoured to be considering a bid.
