So, Ottawa, how are you spending your last long weekend of the summer? Catching the best sci-fi plays in townSinging some Verdi? Creating a coffee map? Celebrating a crafty birthday?

Some people are convinced that bacon goes with anything, and this show, featuring Roberta Bondar and The Yips, is proving that bacon and music make a great couple. Other music adventures this weekend include DJ Hobo and Sweetcheeks doing a pop-up show at the H’burg Public House, and your favourite Ramones cover band taking to the stage at Zaphod’s. STILLNATIVE will bring their eclectic sound to Mercury Lounge tonight, or you can catch some mind-boggling blues with guitarists Buck Tingley and Steve Marriner at Irene’s. This city’s commitment to having a constant stream of music festivals continues this weekend, with the Ottawa Rhythm Festival kicking off Saturday. Folk Fest-ers should start getting ready, with that festival kicking off a little later next week – but you can prepare by visiting their psychedelic van today to win a passport to the whole festival. And in other festival-fixes, check out the Serbian Festival for its food, drinks and wild dancing.

The visual art world is starting September in a big way – BLINK Gallery is showing Private Sea and Social Tea Maps by Jenny McMaster, while Manon Labrosse’s Tree Farm opens at Galerie St Laurent this weekend, too. Patrick Gordon Framing is hosting a silent auction fundraiser featuring Portraits of Bluesfest. If you want something more hands on, Shanghai’s Comic Jam is where you should be.

Theatre lovers should check out GigSpace’s Theatre Nights, where Ottawa’s performers come to show their new work, test out ideas, and put on a unique show. And if you missed Space Mystery….From OuterSpace!! or Alien Predator: The Musical at the Fringe earlier this year, now’s your chance to see them. (We reviewed them over at FullyFringed – check out the reviews here and here!)

How else are you spending your time this weekend? Let us know below!

Ohhh don' forget that Ceremony is back this weekend, Saturday September 1st @ Fall Down Gallery, 288 Bank Street. The party starts at 10pm and costs only 5 bones. Woooo!
