So you’ve survived the crippling heat of this week’s soaring temperatures, and finally have enough energy again to actually move around without breaking into a sweat. What to do?
If you discovered that your entire wardrobe was best suited for winter, head to the 3rd annual Love the Clothes, Hate the Cancer clothing swap. Or, if your kids are eager to get out on the town (or if you need to release your inner 5-year-old), the International Children’s Festival down at LeBreton Flats should suit. For those of you who love your two-wheeler, join in the Ottawa Critical Mass bike ride Friday evening – these rides are always a ton of fun. (Seriously – check out the bewildered faces of the motorists as they try to get around the massive group of bikers – priceless.)
And music ‘fest’ season in Ottawa gets underway soon – in anticipation of Bluesfest, Westfest, the Folkfest and the Jazz festival, head to your nearest venue, as there’s sure to be something good this weekend. Rose Cousins is in town, and Winchester Warm is having a hot cd release party on Friday. And if you haven’t had enough sun this week, check out King Sunshine at the Blacksheep on Saturday night. I’m pretty pumped about the Wind Up Radio Sessions at the Rainbow on Friday – there are also good shows happening at Raw Sugar and Ritual that same evening.
Oh – and those runners taking over your precious downtown streets? It’s Ottawa Race Weekend! Kudos to all of the Apt613 friends hitting the street with their speedy feet – we can’t promise we’ll be there to cheer you on, but we’ll be cheering you on in spirit. (Actually, we’ll most likely be found looking for deals at our favourite huge garage sale – what can we say? Most of us are just really cheap very sensible with our money.) We also really like vegetables, and like to celebrate them at their own ‘fest’.
In our last but not least section, we’ve got roller derby, burlesque idol and a mock 1860 mayoral debate. (You thought politics today was dirty? Check out the insults being thrown around at this debate!) There’s also one more ‘fest’ for you to check out – PaddleFest! And, if your weekend just isn’t complete without popcorn and a movie, the Mayfair has their usual Saturday Night Sinema show, marking (sadly) the last Saturday of the month. Have a good one, all – and share any other important events with the rest of us in the comments!
