Weekend Roundup: What’s on this weekend?

By Hannah Manning on August 25, 2016

The Olympics are over and we no longer have a reason to stay inside (besides that glorious AC) so grab some friends and enjoy what Ottawa has to offer this weekend!

This weekend sees the 13th edition of the House of PainT. What started as a small event celebrating hip hop culture in Canada has expanded over the years to be an inclusive festival where all are welcome to check out art, listen to music, and marvel over skilled dancers. Featuring a poetry slam, workshops on mural painting, breaking, DJing and the history of hip hop and urban life in Canada and the world, and a kids corner, there’s something for everyone. Check their Facebook event for all the details.

The Ottawa Craft Beer Festival returns to Lansdowne for the weekend and is bringing in craft breweries from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and beyond. In addition to the beer festival, there’s also a 5km Craft Beer Run for anyone who likes to work for their beer.

MakerSpace North is hosting an open house on Saturday to celebrate the makers, shakers, creators, and innovators that reside in their space. There’s a bit of everything happening: bike riding, hula hooping, 3D printing demos, woodworking demos, furniture upcycling, and a DIY BB-8 droid, just to mention a few.

Have you ever seen hockey on horses? Well, head to Wesley Clover Parks on Saturday for Polo In The Park Ottawa. This fundraising event, with polo matches as well dog agility and horseback riding demonstrations, will benefit local community agencies.

Queering 613 has organized a softball tournament for Saturday at LaRoche Park. While registration is full, all are welcome to come enjoy the day. Looking for a way to spend your evening? Bar Robo is throwing a Kitchen Party on Saturday night.

The Blacksheep Inn is hosting a matinee concert Sunday featuring leMeow and Dang Guilty. Wakefield is an excellent place to spend a summer’s day so hop in the car and go explore. Don’t miss the Wakefield Covered Bridge!

There’s plenty more happening this weekend – be sure to stop by our event calendar. For a chance to be featured in our Instagram feed, tag your photos from this weekend with our #apt613wknd hashtag!
