It’s been an unimaginable past day in Ottawa. We’ve been anxious, locked-down and saddened. Our resolve to celebrate the best of Ottawa and our commitment to keeping our city healthy and happy has never been stronger. More than anything else today, we offer our tributes, thoughts and concern to the family and friends of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo who was tragically killed while guarding our national war memorial.
We know that Ottawa will not let an act of violence define us. We will think hard about how something like this could happen, we will pay our respects, and we will continue to live with the freedom and hopefulness for which we are known.
In that spirit, we hope that you’ll help us share the love in Ottawa. We’re doing a special print run of our Support Local poster from a few years ago that captures our feelings for Ottawa today. We hope you’ll help us plaster the city we love with the message it deserves.
We’re going to have printed copies available soon, but in the meantime we’ve got a downloadable poster that you can have here for printing. Download it. Print it freely. Hang it in your business, your office, on your fridge, or anywhere else that needs a little love this week.
We’re covering the cost of the print run and our friend Steve St. Pierre at Maker kindly handled the design for us. We’re hoping that before downloading your poster you’ll consider making a donation to the Canadian Hero Fund, a grassroots fund that provides scholarships for the families of fallen soldiers. Alternatively, we hope that you’ll give to another one of the many charities in Ottawa that help make Ottawa strong. Post in the comments where you’re donating to help spread the word.
Let’s remember the good and celebrate what’s great. Love your city when it needs you most.
