This year’s Support Local month has brought together several artists with a few curious venues – we’ve got photography in an office space! – and some traditional venues, too (like Shanghai and Pressed). Tonight we’ve got openings for both Julie Cruikshank’s work, which we featured yesterday, and for Magida El-Kassis. Magida’s show will be up in perhaps the most curious location of all – in a bar located in a jail. This is what Support Local is all about, though – bringing together Ottawa’s creative scene in quirky ways.

Here we’ve got a mini-doc of Magida talking about her work and heading out on a few shoots (don’t tell anyone, but she’s a bit of a trespasser!). She’s big into portraits, but her latest work has branched out and included explorations of hidden Ottawa spots. Her show, Travel Series Photographs, will run until the end of the month at Mugshots (75 Nicholas St).
