The first huge dump of snow usually hits Ottawa around Christmas Eve, and that’s when the rink season begins.
5 hours of packing the snow, 20 hours of flooding the ice, and another 200 hours maintaining the rink – that’s how a rink guy spends his winter in Ottawa.
There are hundreds of Al, Bernie and Ewan in Ottawa, taking care of the city’s 260 outdoor rinks.
And… by the way, all handmade, no zamboni!
