When TIMEKODE began at the Eri Cafe in 2005, it quickly became one of Ottawa’s most loved monthly dance parties. On the third Friday of every month, the Eri was packed. Seven years later, after their venue’s unforseen closure, TIMEKODE spread its roots and sprouted up in other spaces, including Maker Space North, the Elmdale, Nostalgica, Mercury Lounge and the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne. This Friday, TIMEKODE will return to the Horticulture Building to commemorate a very special anniversary: Ten years of soul moving soul.

What began in 2005 has grown into the biggest, longest-running independent dance party in the city. In honour of this milestone, they’ve invited one of their favourite artists, whose music they’ve been spinning for years. Quantic is an internationally renowned producer and DJ from the UK, now based in Brooklyn, NY. He will be joining DJs Zattar, Memetic, and Trevor Walker this Friday to bring us a party worthy of such an occasion. Mawt Trood will be providing visuals. For those who are, regrettably, unable to make it, TIMEKODE and CHUO 89.1FM will bring the party to you. They will be broadcasting live on CHUO 89.1FM, all night long.

December 4th also marks the release of the first volume of the TIMEKODE X remix series – a celebration of 10 years on 10″. DJs Zattar and Memetic have remixed new music from two of the best bringers of soul: The Souljazz Orchestra and Bonjay. Preview the album here and pick up a copy on Friday night.

Souljazz is a heavy hitting six piece from Ottawa. Their sound is an eclectic melange between Afro, Soul, Jazz, Latin, and Carribean. Toronto-based, Bonjay, the duo that began in Ottawa, are an impeccable pairing of talents and tastes. Together, the two create incredible, inventive music that is one part dancehall, one part indie, and another part soul.

In addition to being very pleasing to your ears, TIMEKODE X Vol. 1 is also pleasant on the eyes. The cover art was created by Ottawa artists Kalkidan Assefa and Colin White. Vol. 2 in the remix series is slated for release in early 2016.

This is the party that has been a decade in the making.

TIMEKODE X is happening on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Horticulture Building on Lansdowne Park. Advance tickets are $18.46 and available online. Tickts are $20 at the door.  Doors at 10pm.
