Things came together pretty quickly for Hub Ottawa. So fast, in fact, that they forgot to actually celebrate their opening. This week, they are putting things right with a grand opening celebration tonight. The Mayor was at the Hub for a ribbon cutting this morning and they are opening their doors for an open house from 6-9pm. They will have some fun food, a cash bar and music by Rob Reid of World Famous Music.
For anyone who hasn’t been, the Hub is pretty cool spot. They have assembled a loft-style co-working space in Ottawa’s downtown The space is used by entrepreneurs, consultants, artists, students and anyone else who might need a space to work out of. The goal is to create a space for collaboration and social innovation. It’s a space for people who need networking and support for their social ventures.
“I can’t even tell you how many interactions happen on a weekly basis. [One of the hub founders] Jason and our Host team have facilitated over 125 purposeful introductions between members locally and globally – and many have resulted in meaningful support or collaboration,” said Vinod Rajasekaran Executive Director of Hub Ottawa. “Things are going well. In a little over 6 months we’ve gone from zero to 140 members doing work in close to 30 disciplines including arts & culture, immigrant services, international development, sustainability, education, urban farming and more.”
They have quickly become the go-to venue for many events and their membership has grown to 140 members. Next, according to Vinod, the Hub team is working to launch “a brand new learning academy called ‘Impact Academy’ for non-profits, social entrepreneurs and professionals to gain practical knowledge, tools and connections they need to better deliver products and services that change lives.”
