Video: New murals are popping up on farm silos in the region

By Greggory Clark on July 7, 2017

Last month, Apt613 visited the artists responsible for massive murals being painted on farm silos in the National Capital Region. Now that the new works have been completed, visitors are invited to tour the Popsilos circuit including stops in Embrun, St-Albert, Casselman and Vankleek Hill.

As a part of the project, gorgeous murals have been painted at the St-Albert Cheese Co-op (150 St-Paul Street) and at Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. (10 Terry Fox Drive). Note those stops for food and drinks – both Beau’s and St-Albert offer a summer menu and patios for sunny day treats.

The circuit combines art and agrifood tourism in the countryside, interlacing local producers like the Vankleek Hill Vineyard and the Ben-Rey-Mo Farm. It’s the invention of Jennifer Larocque and Mathieu Mault, local entrepreneurs, and 11 street artists.

“I challenge you to find a cooler day trip this summer,” says Larocque, who invited an international urban art agency, Ashop, to produce the monumental artworks.

“The project is unique,” says Kris Wilk, President at Ashop. “It is not every day that our artists have the opportunity to create on such a surreal surface.”

Larocque adds: “The merger of urban and rural creates a new Canadian experience, in a circuit, unexpected and sensorial, a first for Canada.”
