Podcast: Recovery Day Ottawa organizers Gord Garner and Raylene Lang-Dion

By Josh Lemoine on September 20, 2017

This week on the show, Josh is joined by guest host Cara Kane, an addictions counsellor and mental health advocate. She’s joined in-studio by Gord Garner and Raylene Lang-Dion, both from Recovery Day Ottawa.

“Recovery Day is a community celebration,” says Garner, not specifically for those in recovery from various addictions, but rather “it’s for the community that supports recovery, to celebrate, and to show that support.”

Gord, Raylene and Cara discuss the stigma associated with addictions and recovery, why Recovery Day is such a necessary event, and how anyone can be a #RecoveryAlly.

This year’s event will feature performances and speeches by Daphne Willis, Séan McCann and Cody Coyote, among many other inspiring stories.

“People always say ‘well what can I do?” says Garner. “Come to Recovery Day. Give it a shout out. Bring your good spirits, bring your good hopes and your good wishes, and the community will be better just for that.”

Recovery Day Ottawa 2017 takes place Saturday, September 23rd at Ottawa City Hall and is free for all to attend.
