Kontinuum dazzles from the unlikeliest of venues

By Philippe Ha on July 17, 2017

Kontinuum: An Underground Journey Through Time, is a sound and light experience inside the yet to be opened LRT station at Lyon and Sparks. Created and produced by the Ottawa 2017 Bureau and Moment Factory, the studio responsible for lighting such events as the Sagrada familia in Barcelona, Madonna’s MDNA Tour and NFL Super Bowl halftime show, and most recently the Jacques Cartier Bridge in Montreal.

The story premise for Kontinuum is that a crevice in the fabric of reality was discovered during excavation of the LRT tunnel. Since this discovery, inexplicable electromagnetic waves have been appearing in and around the tunnel, captivating the imagination of passersby. It is an immersive, dynamic and moving experience, using the full 500-metre length of the station, where participants are exposed to the hidden frequencies of the material world.

Kontinuum is like nothing Ottawa has ever seen. ▪️▫️▪️▫️

Using technology in creative ways to highlight the architecture in the Confederation Line’s Lyon Station, the project gives residents and visitors a first glimpse inside the LRT system, while offering them an uplifting experience like no other.

Kontinuum highlights the most transformative project in Ottawa since the construction of the Rideau Canal. We’re excited to offer residents and visitors a first glimpse of this once-in-a-generation infrastructure project and to build anticipation for this new era of transportation in the nation’s capital. – Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa

Not only is Kontinuum a hopeful and audacious exhibition, it is a reminder that world-class events in Ottawa can be both family-friendly and completely mind-blowing.
