It’s time, once again, to picnic. This isn’t just any picnic, though – this is a classy, black tie affair, voted one of Ottawa’s sexiest parties in our racy survey from earlier this year. For the past two years, Harvest Noir has seen hundreds of brave Ottawans gather together in their finest threads. Why ‘brave’, you ask? The picnics have both fallen on unseasonably cold days, with a spot of rain or two. This year, the organizers are hoping to change all that by holding it earlier in September, when the weather can still be balmy.
To draw some attention to the event, Harvest Noir picnickers gathered on August 18 for a fashion flash mob, posing with vintage bikes and dressed all in black (as the picnic requires). Some of Ottawa’s most talented photographers were on hand to snap photos, which you can see in the slideshow above.
This year’s picnic will take place on September 7, with the location to be revealed just hours before the event takes place. Past years have found picnickers at the Museum of Civilization and City Hall – this year, the organizers are promising a DJ’d dance party, a pop-up parade and a fashion show where participants can show off their fancy clothes. The spins at the dance party will come courtesy the Timekode crew, known for their monthly parties down at Eri Cafe. There will also be a mainstage dance floor, where top 40 hits will keep you dancing. Chinadoll will be the MC for the night, and there are awesome prizes available for those whose fashions take the cake.
So how do you sign up? You can go with some friends and organize a formal table – don’t forget to bring your own cutlery and other essentials for eating. The Harvest Noir site has recipes and recommendations on what to bring, and you can even take a group trip to the farmer’s market to stock up on local ingredients. If you’re not much of a picnicker, they’ve got after-party-only tickets on sale now too.
If you’re planning on going but have yet to buy your ticket, you’re in luck – we’re giving away tickets to six Apartment613 readers! All you have to do is leave a comment below by Wednesday at noon with your best reason for why you should get a free ticket – be creative!
