Harvest Noir is back with fashion flash mobs and DJs – and a ticket giveaway!

It’s time, once again, to picnic. This isn’t just any picnic, though – this is a classy, black tie affair, voted one of Ottawa’s sexiest parties in our racy survey from earlier this year. For the past two years, Harvest Noir has seen hundreds of brave Ottawans gather together in their finest threads. Why ‘brave’, you ask? The picnics have both fallen on unseasonably cold days, with a spot of rain or two. This year, the organizers are hoping to change all that by holding it earlier in September, when the weather can still be balmy.

To draw some attention to the event, Harvest Noir picnickers gathered on August 18 for a fashion flash mob, posing with vintage bikes and dressed all in black (as the picnic requires). Some of Ottawa’s most talented photographers were on hand to snap photos, which you can see in the slideshow above.

This year’s picnic will take place on September 7, with the location to be revealed just hours before the event takes place. Past years have found picnickers at the Museum of Civilization and City Hall – this year, the organizers are promising a DJ’d dance party, a pop-up parade and a fashion show where participants can show off their fancy clothes. The spins at the dance party will come courtesy the Timekode crew, known for their monthly parties down at Eri Cafe. There will also be a mainstage dance floor, where top 40 hits will keep you dancing. Chinadoll will be the MC for the night, and there are awesome prizes available for those whose fashions take the cake.

So how do you sign up? You can go with some friends and organize a formal table – don’t forget to bring your own cutlery and other essentials for eating. The Harvest Noir site has recipes and recommendations on what to bring, and you can even take a group trip to the farmer’s market to stock up on local ingredients. If you’re not much of a picnicker, they’ve got after-party-only tickets on sale now too.

If you’re planning on going but have yet to buy your ticket, you’re in luck – we’re giving away tickets to six Apartment613 readers! All you have to do is leave a comment below by Wednesday at noon with your best reason for why you should get a free ticket  – be creative!

Because you NEED a Montrealer to testify that HarvestNoir is THE place to be to those Montreal-centered people and the ones attending Dîner en Blanc!!

  • I have a black black heart- the perfect accessory for an event like this.

  • It would be an honour to win a chance to sit with some of the most daring and fabulous of Ottawa! Such a rare moment when you see people come together to show their brilliance and creativity through fashion and food OUTSIDE in the fall! Screams Awesome! Typically I am the host of the parties at the Mercury Lounge, being a guest would be such a privilege. I promise to bring out my best “Queen of the Night” ensemble!

Sounds like a great excuse to break out the craft supplies and make a fun head piece. And a lovely way to celebrate local delicious food and friends.

    ?
Harvest Noir captures everything that I adore!

I love to cook for other people and I host dinner parties all the time but I’m thrilled to be able to create a portable party – a picnic! Though dancing into the dark night is the best dessert ever, I will still bring a devilishly delicious dessert.

As Halloween is my favorite holiday, you can be guaranteed me and my friends will be dressed to the blackest nines.

H?arvest Noir, I would be honoured to be your dinner part guest.?

    Until then,
    Black Raven

Because every party needs a man in a kilt!

  • Natalie

Because I’ve attended the past two years and been frozen and soaked and am looking forward to good weather 🙂

  • Pomme

Because I just moved here from Vancouver, and I really, really need a good reason to argue that Ottawa is cooler than BC!

  • Nicole

Every year my husband and I make a list of the ‘Top 10 Things We Need To Do in Ottawa’. Harvest Noir has been #1 for two years running. Please help us make our dream a reality!

  • Because I’ll sing for my supper.

  • Magalie

I want to win because I’ve missed every year so far, due to being out of town! I’m here this year, I want to go!

  • Nicola

There once was a chic autumn picnic
In a city of critics and cynics
    But a harvest so lush
Turned those hard hearts to mush
And they came all decked out in black lipstick

  • Julia

To finally stop my friends from bugging me to buy a ticket as I’m broker than broke!!

  • Ayla
