Gig Pick: Scary Bear Soundtrack at the Apt613 Screening Party—11.30.18

By Apartment613 on November 23, 2018

Longtime favourites of the blog, Scary Bear Soundtrack will be at Apt613’s screening party next Friday, November 30.

Known for their dreamy synth pop and layered vocal harmonies, Ottawa’s critically-acclaimed group were a national finalist in CBC’s Searchlight competition. Their song “Fault Lines” about gender-based violence made it to the top 4 in CBC’s talent search for Canada’s Best New Artist.

The local dream-pop band has three records (with one upcoming in 2019), once collaborated with Canadian media artist Timothy I. Smith to compose an original soundtrack of instrumentals, and has one of the best Shot In The Dark sessions found on YouTube:

You can join us for Scary Bear’s set at the Apt613 Screening Party, an entertaining night of new films and videos from the Apt613 filmmaking community. This program includes our best of 2018, fresh episodes, hilarious bloopers, and the premiere of an all-new series.

When: Friday, November 30 (Doors 8pm; Screenings at 8:45pm and 10pm)
Where: Arts Court Theatre (2 Daly Avenue)
Tickets: Eventbrite — by donation

There will be free popcorn for all and gourmet bites catered by local restaurants TBA (hint: restaurants which feature in upcoming episodes of our Amuse Bouche food series). Admission is by donation and all proceeds will fund 613TV productions in 2019. The video team has been doing fantastic things over the past year, and we can’t wait to show it off. Here’s just a little sample of what 613TV has been up to:

613TV’s resident beatmaker fivepee is selecting music and the first of two screenings will follow Scary Bear Soundtrack—Friday is also when Apartment613 will premiere the live music series shot at the Innovation Pod this fall. Stay tuned for clips from artists like Jesse Dangerously, Moonfruits, Empty Nesters and more.

The Apartment613 Screening Party is happening at Arts Court Theatre (2 Daly Ave) on Friday November 30 at 8pm. You can RSVP on Facebook and reserve tickets via Eventbrite. All event proceeds will fund 613TV productions in 2019.

Correction: An earlier version of this post said Scary Bear Soundtrack are performing after the 10pm screening. They’re going to play before the 8:45pm screening. Doors open at 8pm.
