Since 2014, Dustin Finer and Daniel Freder have performed as DF. Described as the “21st century lovechild of a basement jazz club, a campfire, and a painter’s loft-studio,” the Montreal-based duo will visit The Record Centre (1099 Wellington W) for a concert this Thursday evening, May 4 at 8pm.
Finer composes original works for saxophone and looper and Freder designs, builds with found materials, and programs light installations which react to music in real-time. The same pair are known for producing highly interactive and memorable concerts, like a show inside a giant blanket fort which made headlines in 2015. Another time, for a concert at La Petite Mort Gallery in Ottawa, DF allowed for their setlist to be determined by the audience in a “choose-your-own-adventure” story style. Their unique project has been showcased in Nuit Blanche, TEDx Montreal, POP Montreal, and by the Ottawa New Music Creators.
On Thursday night, DF will be joined by Ottawa trio mal/aimé (members of Pony Girl aka “Drony Girl”) who perform a unique form of improvised “chamber drone” music on clarinet, electric guitar and synthesizers.
DF perform at The Record Centre (1099 Wellington W) with special guests mal/aimé this Thursday, May 4 at 8pm. PWYC admission. This show is all ages and family friendly.
