Lip Service
by Ashley Whitehead & Natalie Tin Yin Gan
Pulsive Party

60 min / Comedy, Clown / Mature

You get what you see with Lip Service and you can’t take the show too seriously. After all, it’s two young women dressed up in adult sized vagina outfits dancing, singing, working out and acting on stage.

It would be hard to take your eyes off any giant vagina moving around on a stage but that’s not why Ashley Whitehead and Natalie Tin Yin Gan had the audience’s gaze glued on them. The two limber and athletic performers created an unforgettable original choreography and executed it perfectly. Their movements were in sync, hilariously thought out and performed, well paired with the music and their lines, and even graceful.

You would expect this from physical clown comedy and the girls nailed it! There isn’t much of a storyline per say, and this is where Lip Service could have taken advantage of the audience’s devoted attention to make a point or challenge our perspective. Nonetheless, Lip Service still cleverly explores women’s genitalia-specific themes such as health, sex and social constructs. The audience went wild for Ashley and Natalie and they deserved every cheer and applaud.

There is also the most incredible rendition of Khia Shamone’s “My Neck, My Back” that you will ever hear. You may even add this old classic song back on your playlist.

This show will absolutely leave a smile on your lips.

Lip Service by Ashley Whitehead & Natalie Tin Yin Gan is playing at La Nouvelle Scène Studio A (333 King Edward Ave) until Sunday June 24, 2018. Tickets cost $12. Visit ottawafringe.com for the schedule and box office info. Read more reviews at apt613.ca/fringe.
