Foodie Friday: The new Heritage Room Gastropub adds local contemporary cuisine to a historical space

With an extravagant yet warm and rustic decor, the Heritage Room Gastropub, which shares an entrance with The Albion Rooms in the Novotel Hotel, pays homage to its space’s historic roots while promising delicious contemporary cuisine.

The Gastropub is located in one of Canada’s heritage buildings – the Albion Hotel, Ottawa’s oldest hotel. The restaurant’s grand opening on Thursday, March 23 attracted a large crowd of local food enthusiasts, including Mayor Jim Watson and Canada’s Ambassador to the European Union, Stéphane Dion.

Attendees got to sample delicious dishes, including the 72-hour short rib, herb gnocchi, duck confit, grilled mackerel, and artistically-presented charcuterie boards. These elegant dishes reflected executive chef Jesse Bell’s “contemporary Canadiana” culinary style, and love of local ingredients.

In addition to its regular menu, the Gastropub will be offering an unique “Chef’s Table” event every Saturday night at 7pm. This unique experience will allow guests to sample a surprise menu with wine pairings created by Chef Jesse Bell each week. Guests will be able to enjoy the dishes with a full view of the Gastropub’s gorgeous open kitchen.
