Urbanism Lab – Indigenous Place Making in the Capital

June 20 @ 6:30 pm8:30 pm

Free

As part of National Aboriginal Day, Indigenous youth from across the country will come together to participate in a design workshop. The aim is to provide opportunities for young professionals to help transform the fabric of our capital to better reflect and celebrate the culture and presence of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Two teams will assess multiple sites, and then undertake the following:

•discuss an appropriate framework for Indigenous place making

•choose locations within the National Capital Region

•develop unique and iconic gathering places for Indigenous people

•create places of social connection to bring all Canadians together in a space of inspiration and common cause.

They will present the results of their workshop to the public in the Capital Urbanism Lab.

The workshop will be facilitated by the Indigenous Place Making Council (IPMC). IPMC is a non-profit organization that facilitates the transformation of Canadian communities, institutions and public places to better reflect the rich and diverse contributions of Canada’s founding peoples.
