Kathy M Haycock
Vernissage: Thursday, June 7 from 6-9pm
Kathy M Haycock is a consummate Canadian artist. Her work is strongly influenced by her father, Arctic painter Maurice Haycock, and A.Y. Jackson, her father’s close painting partner of 30 years. Kathy grew up surrounded by their work and first glimpsed Canada’s vast lands in paintings from their numerous cross-country sketching trips.
Kathy considers painting to be a mainly outdoor activity and says she is never happier than when she discovers “the perfect painting place”, a spot to create in comfort and serenity. Wild landscapes are her favourite motif, which she experiences every time she steps outside her Eganville, Ontario cabin into the Algonquin boreal forest. She also frequently returns to the Arctic tundra to paint its immense, powerful reaches and annually visits the parched deserts and prairies of Arizona and New Mexico.
Haycock exhibits extensively across Canada and the US in juried shows. Her work is represented in galleries as well as private, public and corporate collections from the Yukon to Newfoundland, the US, Europe, the Middle East, China and Australia. She is a member of Arctic Quest, Polar Artists Group, Worldwide Nature Artists Group and is a long standing peer of the Society of Canadian Artists, the Ontario Society of Artists and a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.
