Get ready for an exciting concert featuring Mélanie from the French Jazz Ensemble ‘Mélanie E.’ sharing her regular repertoire along with other songs that are near and dear to her heart.
After being diagnosed with Breast Cancer on the day she performed at the 2017 TD Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival, Mélanie and husband/collaborator Keith Hartshorn-Walton decided to focus their energy on what really counts – Family and music!
The stress of the diagnosis and the preparation for her cancer journey made Mélanie realise that she needed to stay positive. The planning and recording of a new Mélanie E. CD, ‘Chemin’ – released November 18, 2017 – proved to be a much-needed distraction from the disease and its treatments.
Now with this concert the focus is once again on the music and the people who helped Mélanie on her journey both as a musician and as a person.
Treatments ended in January, 2018 and looking back, Mélanie is thankful to have had this year to find herself: both as a woman and a musician.
“The Year I became Me” will present the Mélanie E. ensemble featuring Mélanie (Vocals), Keith (Tuba) and regular members Alex Tompkins (Guitar) and Michel Delage (Drums). Adding to the sound will be a horn section assembled exclusively for this concert featuring three of Ottawa’s finest (details below). Although much of their repertoire is French, don’t be surprised to hear a few English tunes mixed in.
Special guests include:
- Nicholas Dyson – Trumpet (The Beeched Wailers, Bank Street Bonbons)
- Steven Berndt- Trombone (Safe Low Limit, Jivewires, The Commotions)
- Richard Page – Saxophones (The Prime Rib Big Band, ERU-ERA, The Commotions)
