—ABOUT THE REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP GROUPS—
Rainbow New Beginnings is a refugee sponsorship group that was founded in February 2016 in the goal of sponsoring a LGBTQ individual. Rainbow New Beginnings is composed of around a dozen people from a variety of walks of life in Ottawa united by their strong conviction that something must be done to help persons of persecuted minority groups to find safety, security and a new beginning in Canada. In September 2016, they welcomed their first gay newcomer from the Middle East and are now working on their second sponsorship of an LGBTQ individual from the Middle East.
Everyone’s Sister is a group of volunteers who chose to get together in 2017 to bring to Ottawa a 22-year old woman currently in Syria trying, against all odds, to finish her studies in pharmacy. The group needs to fundraise now so it can be ready to submit her private sponsorship application when she crosses the border to Turkey in 2018.
