Plan 99 Prose with Ray Robertson, Jesse Ruddock and Carys Davies

April 30 @ 5:00 am6:00 pm

Lives of the Poets (with Guitars) by Ray Robertson picks up where Samuel Johnson left off nearly 250 years ago, collecting biographical and critical portraits of 13 of rock & roll, blues, folk, and alt-country’s most inimitable artists. These often irreverent essays offer a riotous, toe-tapping and original take on how each musician shaped their genre, while looking into their tumultuous lives.

Jesse Ruddock ’s acclaimed debut novel, Shot-Blue tells the story of Rachel, a young single mother living with her son, Tristan, on a lake that borders the unchannelled north – remote, nearly inhospitable. She does what she has to do to keep them alive. But soon, and unexpectedly, Tristan will have to live alone, his youth unprotected and rough. Ravenous and unrelenting, it is a book of first love and first loss.

Welsh author Carys Davies , winner of the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, is acclaimed for work that is spare, precise, and charged with a prickly wit. The stories in her second collection, The Redemption of Galen Pike , remind us how little we know of the lives of others.
