Do you feel like raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and any type of bullying? How about a gala and awards show? Maybe you just like meeting people from our city to share ideas in a positive and welcoming environment. If any of these things sound interesting to you, then the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) has got just the party for you.
The CCGSD is holding its 12th Annual Day of Pink Gala on Wednesday April 12 from 5:30–7:30 pm. It will take place at the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park (1525 Princess Patricia Way).
In a society that prides itself on its freedom of expression, it is important to have a safe and open dialogue with all parties in order to bridge the gap of views and create common ground for all.
The Gala consists of a reception and awards ceremony with the intention of celebrating and marking the international day of pink. The second Wednesday of April is observed all over the globe.
The CCGSD is proud to celebrate the day by acknowledging the work of individuals for making this region a safer place for all to be whoever they wish to be. We all know of someone who has experienced harassment. Sometimes it is a family member, sometimes a friend, or sometimes it is even ourselves. There is no reason for that to occur simply because someone is perceived to be different. In a society that prides itself on its freedom of expression, it is important to have a safe and open dialogue with all parties in order to bridge the gap of views and create common ground for all.
At the Gala, winners of the Youth Role Model of the Year Awards will be announced. These awards are open to anyone from across Canada who has gone above and beyond in the movement against bullying and discrimination. This year has once again produced a great crop of young citizens who embody these ideals and have gone to great lengths to spread the word of acceptance.
The colour pink is the theme of the event and it is highly recommended that you dig through your wardrobe and pull out your best and most fabulous pink attire. There’s even a PinkFabulous dress code that can be found on the CCGSD website for anyone looking to expand their creativity.
There will be free hors d’oeuvres to munch on as you mingle and meet new people. All kinds of drinks will be available at the cash bar.
If you’re looking for a way to help, a silent auction will also be held to raise funds for the CCGSD and its ongoing programs in schools across Canada.
Please visit ccgsd-ccdgs.org/pink for your free Day of Pink Tickets. If you’re feeling extra generous, you can also purchase a special VIPink Ticket ($75) that will provide free beverages and priority seating at the awards ceremony. Proceeds of your VIPink Ticket will help fund the 365 workshops run by CCGSD every year that are held in schools, organizations, and communities across Canada.
So get your pink on and come celebrate togetherness, community, kindness and understanding.
