#SuitupOttawa with Indochino

Full disclosure: I’m getting the Indochino treatment and a complimentary suit. A suit that fits at an affordable price. How hard could it be to find? Apparently harder than I thought, which has forced me to cave in on fit to accommodate my budget. If you’re like me, you’ll want to thank the boys behind thing #SuitupOttawa campaign for convincing Vancouver’s Indochino suit company to bring their pop up store to eastern Canada for the first time from April 24 to 28th. Barry Keegan and Scott Oakley are two of... | Continue reading article

Some of the items you can find at Antiquing at the FieldhouseSome of the items you can find at Antiquing at the Fieldhouse

Post by Peter Sutherland. I think I’ve been organizing antiques shows longer than anyone in this country. For almost 2 decades I’ve been helping organize one of Ottawa’s largest shows, Antiquing at The Fieldhouse, which returns to Carleton University from Friday, March 30 until Sunday April 1, 2012. To clarify, the vast majority of inventory at 99.9% of antique shows in Canada is NOT “antique” (100 years or older).  It may be vintage (say 50 years), retro (say 30 years) or nearly new (say yesterday) – but not antique.  And... | Continue reading article

Wunderkammer: Ottawa’s new curiosity shop

Written by on

Walking into Wunderkammer is like entering an apartment whose owner had recently splurged at an antique store owned by Rilo Kiley. Situated on the trendy intersection of Dalhousie and St Patrick, Wunderkammer’s bright and eclectic décor of antlers, vintage furniture, and nature-inspired artwork is a definite indication of the quirky contents of the store. Co-owners and partners Nathan Dubo and Tamara Steinborn opened the jewelry and gift store in late October 2011 and it has quickly become an Ottawa favorite. While Wunderkammer’s popularity in Ottawa has grown rapidly, its creation began... | Continue reading article

Post by Stephanie Naday Seeking a bit of aesthetic inspiration? Feeling a little stylistically uninspired in Ottawa? This past weekend saw the seventh edition of Ottawa Fashion Week which delivered fall/winter 2012 collections fit to satisfy any fashion enthusiast’s cravings. Held at the Westin Hotel downtown, the weekend featured a diverse group of designers hailing from across Canada. Apartment613 was at the event on Friday night, and was thoroughly impressed with the collections being shown. The night started off with Elena’s Creations, a local designer who has run her own... | Continue reading article

OFW invites you to discover the fashions of the season – Win tickets to the 3-day event!

Written by on

Ottawa Fashion Week is almost upon us. The event is building on the success of the fall edition, its biggest yet. Spring fashion weeks are generally smaller in nature than their fall/winter counterparts, but I’m really excited to see the 17  designers showing at the Westin Hotel’s Governor General Ballroom. Designers like frAsh jewelry, DeMoyo, Montreal’s !Nu.I,  Jana Hanzel & Emilia Torabi and Rachel Sin return. Expect to find lots of elegant, ready to wear fashions from Amanda Emmanuel and Turbine with edgier streetwear from folks like Y!D.N.A COLLECTION. Folks... | Continue reading article

Written by on

Those big wedding shows always promise the perfect, unique day. But can those vendors really know what unique twists and turns you’ll want to bring to your special day? What if you want handmade chocolates? Or a truly one-of-a-kind ring? And how can you reduce the stress of planning it all? This is where Wed By Hand comes in – Ottawa’s wedding show that’s like no other. Sure, they have some of the usual trappings of weddings shows, but with a twist: it’s vegan cake you’ll be sampling, local flowers... | Continue reading article

OFW is back! Win a pair of tickets for the 3-day event!

Written by on

I have a confession to make. Watching Project Runway is my guilty pleasure. At first when my girlfriend watched, I sort of squirmed and looked away, but for the last 3 years, I’ve been hooked and can’t look away anymore. So I always get excited when the chance comes twice a year to be by the runway in real life when Ottawa Fashion Week comes along.
