Treasure hunters having a blast at Antique & Vintage Market

Written by on

Sixties Dresses? A swivel chair from the 50′s? Artwork from the forties? Check, check and check! Treasure hunters of all ages were having a blast swooning and admiring all of the different things that were available for sale at the semi-annual Ottawa Antique & Vintage Market. There was a steady stream of visitors at the entrance all afternoon on Saturday. Vendors from all... | Continue reading article

Do you go into a museum and want to touch everything? Or perhaps you have a curious desire to try on period costumes and jewellery just to see if you really were meant to be born in a different time? Or, maybe you still aren’t over those lamps you absolutely fell in love with in a 1950s design exhibit. Oh, the way they would have completed your living room. I’ve been there and I can tell you there’s a place where you can indulge all of these fantasies. At the... | Continue reading article

So there I am shopping in Fabrications, a must-visit fabric shop on Wellington Street West, when I overhear a conversation. A fellow who I’d noticed scouring the shelves and pulling out fabric bolts is now talking with the owner. Apparently he has a business here in Ottawa with his buddy selling bow ties through their online store. They call themselves High Tide Bow Ties. “You should reach out to Apartment613” suggests the owner of Fabrications. At which point I say hello, and, “Cloth bow ties? I’d love to write a... | Continue reading article

Ottawa luxury fashion gets a facelift

Written by on
All photos by John Aung. All photos by John Aung.

As one fashion luxury door closes in Ottawa, a new one opens. The iconic Holt Renfrew, a Sparks Street fixture for the last 78 years, will be closing its doors for good on January 25th, 2015.  Nordstrom, a large high-end American department store, will be taking over the luxury fashion market in Ottawa and will be open for business on March 6, 2015 at Rideau Centre.  Fear not fashionistas, there will only be a six-week withdrawal where high-end designer labels won’t be easily accessible in the Ottawa area. It is... | Continue reading article
