The Art House Café (555 Somerset St W) officially opened on Friday, February 10 in a beautifully restored 140 year-old building across from Dundonald Park. The newest art house is on the same Centretown block as the former Daily Grind (rest in peace) which was destroyed by a fire in 2015.
Part of the neighbourhood’s revival efforts, this space is intended to serve as a hub for artists and artisans to meet, collaborate, and share their creations with the community. The café will be offering workspace, tools and workshops for those interested in arts – as well as delicious treats and drinks for customers looking to be inspired in the cozy gallery rooms.
Opening day could only be described as a success, with many patrons filling the house to see the galleries adorned with unique art. There were some minor issues around sitting and table space on Day 1, but aside from that, this new venue is certainly a welcome addition for makers and customers to meet like-minded individuals, discuss, and create over beverages and food.
The Art House Café (555 Somerset St W) has posted opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday 8am to 8pm and on Monday from 8am to 3pm. For a calendar of events visit www.thearthousecafe.ca or look to the venue’s Facebook page.
