613TV Spotlight: A chat with Sassy Muffin about Ottawa’s Burlesque scene

By Apartment613 on March 23, 2018

There’s more to an Ottawa Minute video shoot.

The 613TV crew met up with burlesque performer Sassy Muffin while she prepared for a show. While waiting for the new Ottawa Minute episode to drop, you can take a peek behind the boa, rhinestones and garters in this edition of Spotlight: Burlesque with Sassy Muffin.

Sassy Muffin has been practising burlesque in Ottawa since 2009, joined Capital Tease Burlesque troupe in 2012, and is an instructor at Cherry Blossom Dance Studio on St. Laurent Boulevard. She commands the stage with a unique blend of classic moves, campy humour, and unapologetic raunchiness. We asked Sassy why she started practising and performing burlesque, what the art form means to her, and about where we’ll find more performers in the local scene.

3 show picks

  • Rhinestone Cowboys & Cowgirls @ Fatboy’s Southern Smokehouse on April 6 and the first Friday of every month.
  • The Capital Burlesque Expo @ Academic Hall and Café Nostalgica from April 20–22. Tickets are on sale with early-bird discounts available until March 23.
  • Evening of Synth @ The Rainbow on June 12. Sassy Muffin and Eddie Sphughetti  are taking over the twice-monthly Evening of Sin for an 80s themed variety show.
